We offer three forms of Jazz:

• Contemporary
• Jazz
• Lyrical

SCSTD has an excellent Jazz Program where we offer three styles of Jazz. Our former SCSTD students have utilized their jazz training on Broadway, with professional dance companies, and at colleges and universities. Please click on the links above for the class descriptions of Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz today is utilized everywhere in the Musical Theatre, commercial, concert, and entertainment industries. Students will learn techniques and styles which will focus on developing a very strong ballet foundation. Warm-up will consist of exercises and combinations to develop flexibility, strength, coordination, and endurance. For the beginning students, emphasis will be placed on technique, proper placement for extensions, pirouettes, and style. For the more advanced student, centre work is more difficult and progressions will travel across the floor where you will work on extensions, layouts, jumps, advanced turns, flash and trick steps, and fostering the various dynamics that need to be accomplished in jazz. Is Jazz your passion? Audition for the Jazz Company of The Susan Chambers Dance Company. All of our SCSTD students age 6 and up have the opportunity to be considered for a position in our nationally recognized and award winning pre-professional company. Additional training and performing opportunities are available when you are accepted into our prestigious pre-professional company.

All Jazz classes enjoy performing in our Annual Concert.

All Level I and II Jazz Classes are 1 hour in length. Some advanced and pre-professional Level IV-V Jazz classes are 1. 5 hours in length. Jazz classes are offered in Levels I-V (Beginner through Pre-Professional).
